2007 Taittinger - Comtes de Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut (93 pts) @champagnetaittinger @kobrandwines · ℹ️ Comtes de Champagne is the Prestige Cuvée of the Champagne house Taittinger. This is 💯 Chardonnay sourced from 5 Grand Cru villages of Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger. This Cuvée is only made using first press juice to preserve quality. 5% of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels to add complexity. Aged on the lees for 8 to 10 years. Dosage of 9 g/l· 👁 Pale gold color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of smoke, flint, chalky, toast, yellow apple, pear, white peach, and acacia· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium body. Creamy texture to the wine. A medium+ length finish of mineral chalk and flinty reduction· 🔔 A very fine example of Chardonnay excelling in the tumultuous 2007 vintage. This is absolutely stellar. The acidity on this wine is extremely chiseled and needs food or a lot more bottle age. This blew away the 2006 Comtes de Champagne rosé. I am a sucker for lip-smacking acidity that is balanced by the 9 g/l dosage that you barely notice. The 5% of new oak, just adds a subtle extra dimension to the wine that is lovely. Your patience will be rewarded with this wine. 🥰🍾
