2012 Château Pédesclaux - Pauillac (89 pts) @chateaupedesclaux @sgwinespirits · 🙋‍♂️ What is your favorite wine from Pauillac❓· ℹ️ This wine was tasted single blind with a theme intended to identify specific communes of left bank Bordeaux wines. This is a 5th Growth Bordeaux from Pauillac. The wine is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 15 months in French oak barrels with 70% being new oak· 👁 Deep ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, black currant, oak, cedar, vanilla, herbal, and wet rock· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, high drying tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body.. A medium length finish of blackberry and wet rock· 🧠 Not showing any age on the rim so assuming relatively young. Great acidity and structure which is leaning towards a riper young vintage like 2015 or 2016. A lot of black fruit from Cabernet Sauvignon. Guessing the blend to be 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. There is a significant amount of new oak on this wine over 50%. The wet rock mineral note is something often picked up on Graves or Pessac Leognan. Going with 2015 Pessac Leognan at a $50 price point· 🔔 This showing really well for a 2012 vintage. It is still a baby and at $65 worth the price point. I am surprised by the oak regiment in a cooler vintage as normally it is 10-15% lower for this Château. Missing pyrazines from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, but thoroughly enjoyed the mineral wet rock note. Well done! 👏· 😎 In Blind, We Trust
