2016 Domaine Saint Damien - Gigondas Les Souteyrades (90 pts) @weygandtwines @weygandtselections · ℹ️ This wine is was tasted single blind with a theme of thin skinned red wines. This wine is 80% Grenache planted in 1948 and 20% Mourvédre planted in 1977. This is from a single site called Souteyrades which is on a small hill of pure grey clay soil. Vinification with Maceration for 6-8 weeks in concrete vats. Aged for 12 months in 500 L foudre. Bottled unfined and unfiltered· 👁 Medium ruby color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe black cherry, black raspberry, pommegrante juice, candied strawberry, inky, smoke, licorice, dried herbs, and herbal jelly (TCM)· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium+ grippy tannins, high alcohol, and full body. A medium+ length finish of ripe dark fruit and dried herbs· 🔔 This is a big wine - High alcohol, big grippy Tannins, and full body. The acidity keeps this from becoming huge and flabby. Really concentrated black fruit on the edge of overripe, but maintains balance. Very good length to this wine· 😎 In Blind, We Trust
