2012 Occhipinti - Grotte Alte Cerasuolo Di Vittoria Classico (94 pts) - This wine sets the bar for what wine should and could be in Sicily. This wine is very aromatic: bright red fruit (red cherry, raspberry), savory notes as if you walked into a deli (smoked meat, white pepper, salty), herbal (thyme) and mineral. Medium body, medium well integrated silky tannins, medium+ acidity, and balanced medium alcohol. This wine is even more expressive on the palate. The savory notes are less pronounced, but there is a lot of fresh red fruits, floral notes (rose, potpourri) and a long mineral (chalky) finish. This wine is not cheap, but it is the ideal expression of the iron fist (Nero d'Avola) and velvet glove (Frappato) that should be experienced.
