Vines are 10-80 years in age at 820-1000 feet in elevation, with layered clay and sandy limestone tuff soils. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts with 12 hours on the skins, aged 6 months in stainless steel. [Giovanni uses extended skin maceration time as this was “the way Southern Italian peasants used to make their rosé”.]

Nova Vita’s Project K Rose (a blend of Gris, Traminer, and Riesling) is so easy to drink, it’s borderline ridiculous. Avani Rosé de Saignee, one of only a few wines I brought back from the Mornington Peninsular last month, mainly because it was so damn tasty, it’s got bubbles, and as explained by Rohit, they don’t make much of it.

Red berries, hints of bitter orange and rose petals, somewhat savoury and sweet at the same time with a fine fizz. It’s lively and exciting. It’s not pretending to be anything other than what is it… a super fun wine! Loved it!

🥊 Round 5 of the Rosé Blind wine tournament. A good guess on the origin of this wine. Huge value proposition, but was slightly outclassed on gumminess by it's challenger·

ℹ️ This is a Vin de France 🇫🇷 Rosé with grapes coming from Muscadet and Touraine. The blend is 35% Gamay, 35% Merlot, 12% Grolleau, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Pineau d'Aunis, and 2% Pinot Gris. Sustainable vineyard practices. Full MLF and short aging on lees·

👃Low intensity on the nose. Light floral, wet rock, and red currant·

👄 The wine is dry, surprisingly high acidity, medium- alcohol, and medium body. Medium intensity on the palate. Flavors of red currant, strawberry, wet rock, steeliness, and green pepper. The finish is medium- length and ends on a green pepper and metallic note ·

🔔 I liked this bottling a lot more last year. Could this production have just skyrocketed 🚀 due to a hot 🔥trend? I ❤️ the packaging, but the juice was better last year. The low intensity on the nose and the flavors on the finish really knocked it down prior to learning what it was. ⚠️ this is still a lot of wine for $16 (remember it's 1L or 34 oz despite the name) and it is decent for the price. My hipster fad radar 📡 is going off 😥. In Blind, We Trust 😎·

2016 Lioco - Indica Mendocino County Rosé (85 pts)

- A very pale salmon color. Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of underripe strawberry, red currant, white pepper, and strong herbal notes of sage and thyme. The wine is bone dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. Still getting a lot of underripe red fruits that are on the more tart side. Some nectarine and orange as well. The savory and herbal notes are more prevalent on the palate. Salt water, white pepper, lavender, thyme and sage. Medium- length finish. This is not overly complex, but it is nice to drink, especially on a hot day. The acidity gives this a good backbone, but meant to be drunk young. Solid quality.

NV Billecart-Salmon - Brut Rosé (92 pts)

ℹ️ This Champagne is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier. The wine is a blend of three vintages with 2016 as the base and up to 40% reserve wines. This wine is fermented in stainless steel. Around 7-8% of Pinot Noir red wine is added for color and flavor.  The wine is aged on the lees for 36 months. Dosage of 7-8 g/l.

👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of tart cherry, red currant, grapefruit pith, orange peel, bread dough, and Jasmine.

👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, fine pervasive bubbles, medium alcohol (12%), and medium+ body.  A medium+ length finish of crunchy red fruit and orange peel.

🔔 Hands down, the Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé is a benchmark for non-vintage Rosé Champagne. There is a strong core of bright red fruit, but the highlight is the citrus flavors from the large percentage of Chardonnay in the blend. Overall, this wine has the elegance, charm, and balance that I have come to expect from Champagne Billecart-Salmon. Check out my interview with Mathieu Roland-Billecart for more information. 🌹🍾

2019 Château Minuty -  Rose et Or (91 pts)

ℹ️ This wine is 80% Grenache and 20% Cinsault from estate vineyards in the Côte de Provence appellation of France. Château Minuty is in Saint-Tropez with the vineyards only a half-mile from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The grapes are hand-harvested, direct pressed, and only free-run juice is used. Fermentation and aging (4 months) take place in stainless steel.

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of acacia, orange blossom, honeysuckle, underripe nectarine, Asian pear, orange zest, and sea breeze.

👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium body. There is more salinity on the palate with a touch of white pepper as well. A medium length finish of high-end hand soap (very floral), sea breeze, and citrus zest.

🔔 Rose et Or is one of the higher-end cuvées from Château Minuty. This cuvée is more delicate and complex than the Prestige Cuvée. The floral notes ripple from start to finish. The palate shows a nice salty note with a hint of white pepper spice. At this price point, make sure to give the wine enough attention, so it is not overpowered by bolder food pairings.

ℹ️ This Champagne is 37% Pinot Noir, 31% Chardonnay, and 31% Pinot Meunier from a selection of 40 Crus. Pinot Noir red wine (~7%) from Bouzy Grand Cru was added to the blend for color and aged for a minimum of three years on the lees with an additional six months post disgorgement. The dosage is 10 g/l.

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of red cherry, red currant, nectarine, lemon zest, blood orange, pie crust, and toast.

👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, fine-grained pervasive bubbles, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium- body. A medium length finish of tart red fruit and citrus.

🔔 Pommery's Brut Rosé Royal is a definite step up in quality from the Louis Pommery California Rosé, but this wine comes in at twice the price. Overall, Brut Rosé Royal is fresh and a crowd-pleaser, but the dosage is on the high side for my palate, even if carried by the acidity. This rosé is in a competitive price range, with most entry-level rosé Champagnes coming in at $50-$70, so it is really about figuring out what style you like.

2014 Domaine Economou - Oikonomoy Liatiko Rosé (92 pts)

- Deep (for rosé) salmon color. Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of red currant, bing cherry, flint, match stick, floral, elderflower, and watermelon jolly rancher. The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, low ripe tannins, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. Fairly weighty for a rosé. The palate shows flavors of red currant, red cherry, flint, smoke, baked quince, watermelon rind, and a lot of flowers on the finish. Sticking with elderflower on the medium+ length finish. There is an almost custard creaminess to the texture of the wine. This drinks like a lighter red wine instead of a rosé. This is the top producer in Crete, but I am blown away by how delicious and intriguing this wine is on the nose and palate. Liatiko rosé who knew it was a thing?

 2014 Domaine Economou - Oikonomoy Liatiko Rosé (92 pts)

🥊 Round 2 of the Rosé Blind Tasting Tournament, the underdog threw in the towel before the match even started·

ℹ️ This bottle is not clearly labeled as a Sparkling wine, Surprise! 😲 $17 semi-sparkling or barely sparkling rosé from Burgenland Austria. Made from 💯 Pinot Noir·

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Corked 😭 and I could not get any further. Some ripe red fruits and lots of wet paper·

👄 The wine was off dry, almost medium-sized, medium acidity, and low alcohol. Didn't want to drink more past that due to overwhelming corky notes·

🔔 I could almost guarantee that this wine would have lost anyway due to the stellar nature of it's competition. Hopefully 🙏 the cork gods will take this sacrifice and leave me alone for awhile. 😬🥊·

❓ What is your favorite Californian Rosé? ·

ℹ️ This wine is made from 💯 Pinot Noir. The majority is made from the Saignée method or bleed off method. Basically when you start making your red wine you bleed off some of the early juice to make a rosé, this also helps concentrate the remaining red wine. The remainder (~30%) of this wine was whole cluster 🍇 grapes that were left to soak in the skins before being pressed·

👃 Medium-intensity on the nose. Aromas of underripe strawberry, steeliness, blood orange, and wet rock·

👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, low rounded tannins, high alcohol, and full body. Good texture to the wine. More intense on the palate. Strawberry, underripe raspberry, blood orange, orange zest, white pepper, and steeliness. The finish is hot 🔥 and is distracting for me·

🔔 I am a big fan of J Vineyards, but this was underwhelming at $23 especially given the other bottles in this rosé tournament. The alcohol is overshadowing the fruit and dominates the wine. There is an imbalance. The nose was a touch muted as well. It is serviceable and I will leave it at that. In Blind, We Trust 😎·

2016 Blackbird Vineyards - Arriveste Napa Valley Rosé (87 pts)

🥊 Runner up (aka 2nd place) in the Rosé Blind Tasting Tournament. This was the darkest of all of the Rosés tasted and most expensive at $28·

ℹ️ 2016 was an overall ideal year in Napa. 2100 cases made of this wine. Blend of 42% Cabernet Franc, 38% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Produced using the Saignée method·

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of blood orange, nectarine, ripe peach, strawberry, and some light floral notes·

👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, low round tannins, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. Quite weighty for a rosé. Flavors of blood orange, strawberry, red currant, peach, oolong tea, and some dried flowers. The finish is medium length and has a slight Compari-esque bitterness to it·

🔔 The most unique rosé of the tasting in terms of style. It is unabashedly Napa, but in a very bold and unrestrained way. Super pleasant and a bit tough to score·

2017 Maison Saint Aix - AIX Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Rosé (87 pts)

🥊 Round 3 of the Rosé Blind Tasting Tournament. The Provencal Rosé took out the Bandol Rosé in Round 1, but lost a close fight tonight. Tomorrow we start the other side of the bracket·

ℹ️ Maison Saint Aix is located in the south of France. They are one of the largest domains in the AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence with 75 hectares planted. The blend is 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Cinsault·

👀 The wine is a very pale salmon color·

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of lots flowers, acacia, lemon zest, underripe peach, pink grapefruit, and a faint herbal note·

👄 The wine is dry, medium+ zippy Acidity, medium alcohol, and medium- body. Laser like acidity on the palate that makes it clean and refreshing. Lots of floral and citrus notes, especially lemon and pink grapefruit. An herbal thyme note and chalkiness on the medium length finish·

🔔 Although large production volume this wine delivers as a good benchmark of Provencal Rosé. At around $20 this wine is refreshing, balanced and shows some complexity. In Blind, We Trust·

 2017 Maison Saint Aix - AIX Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Rosé

2020 Raúl Pérez - Los Arrotos del Pendón León Rosado

ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Prieto Picudo from the Léon appellation of Castilla y León, Spain. The wine is left in contact with the skins for two days for color. Native yeast fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is on the fine lees for four months before being bottled without fining or filtration.

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe to candied red fruits: red currant candy and strawberry puree with flower pot water.

👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, low ripe tannins, high alcohol (14%), and medium+ body. A medium- length finish of candied red fruits.

🔔 I was looking forward to trying this wine as I am a fan of Raúl Pérez and I always love trying obscure grapes. The flavors are a bit one-note for me, and the alcohol is a bit out of whack. There is a big burn on the finish. Combine that with the watered-down flavor of a melted red icy pop from my childhood, and you can understand my disappointment. I hate to judge a rosé by it's color....... But 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

 2020 Raúl Pérez - Los Arrotos del Pendón León Rosado ℹ️ This

2020 Pax - Trousseau Gris Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard

ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Trousseau Gris from the Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma, California. Trousseau Gris is a gray-skinned mutation of Trousseau from Jura, France. The grapes were harvested early to preserve acidity and fermented in concrete egg with indigenous yeasts. The wine was aged in a combination of stainless steel and neutral French oak before being released. 400 cases produced.

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of orange peel, peach skin, barely ripe Tuscan melon, seafoam, and orange blossom.

👄 The wine is dry, high zippy acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium body. A noticeable leesy character on the palate with a touch of spice. A medium length finish of peach skin, melon, and sea salt.

🔔 Pax Mahle is a fabulous Producer in California making some beautiful wines, but he finds time to make slightly esoteric wines like this Trousseau Gris Rosé. The 2020 has excellent acidity, dialed in aromatics, and a harmonious palate. If you want a rosé that will make you think a little without breaking the bank, then check this out.

2016 Domaine Le Galantin - Bandol Rosé (86 pts)

🥊 Round 1 of the Blind Rosé tasting tournament. This wine was defeated in the first round, not due to any flaws just going up against stiff competition·

ℹ️ This wine is a blend of 50% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache, and 25% Cinsault. The domaine is farmed organically, but not certified·

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of ocean air, underripe strawberry, underripe peach, and white flowers·

👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol, and full body. This wine is quite weighty on the palate. Good overall texture to the wine. Flavors of underripe peach, strawberry, hay, black pepper, and floral. A slight salty sea air note on the medium length finish·

🔔 Overall solid wine. Drink this is you want more weight than Provence style, but still restrained. The alcohol was a touch hot on the palate, not actually high alcohol just how it's integrated. The body of the wine was impressive. Would have liked a touch more acidity. Good stuff 👏·

🥊 Round 6 in the Rosé Blind Tasting Tournament. Charles & Charles Rosé held its own and is clearly punching above it's weight class·

ℹ️ First off this wine only costs $13 😱 WOW! These guys are focused on making a good quality rosé at an affordable price ➡️ Thank you 🙏 and Respect 👊 The blend is 67% Syrah, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Grenache, 7% Mourvedre, and 3% other out of Columbia Valley, Washington State·

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of watermelon, pink lemonade, cotton candy, white pepper, and white flowers·

👄 The wine is dry, medium+ refreshing acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The palate has a bit more intensity. Flavors of pink grapefruit, lemonade, tangerine, watermelon rind, and white flowers. The finish is medium length and has a peppery finish·

🔔 The nose smells new world (bold and fruity), then the palate is old world rosé (balanced and bright). Not Uber complex, but it is tasty and this was the least expensive bottle purchased. Well made wine 👍·

ℹ️ This Sparkling Wine is 76% Chardonnay and 24% Pinot Noir sourced from across California. Red wine Pinot Noir is 4% of the blend for color. This wine is made using the Traditional Method. The wine has a dosage of 6 g/l.

👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of barely raspberry, red currant, pink grapefruit, red apple, and orange blossoms.

👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, moderate-sized vigorous bubbles, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium body. A medium- length finish of red fruit and citrus peel.

🔔 Louis Pommery Brut Rosé is a solid entry-level rosé sparkling wine. It is well made with an intelligent dosage level and solid flavor concentration. Perfect for any weekend brunch. As a pan-Californian wine, it shows less sense of place, but it is more of a value play hitting that sweet spot under $30.

NV Vilmart & Cie - Cuvée Rubis Brut (92 pts)

ℹ️ This Rosé Champagne is a blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. 15% of the Pinot Noir is still red wine. All of the vines are classified as Premier Cru in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne. The vineyards are all farmed by the Vilmart House, which is either owned or in a long term contract neighboring their property. The vineyards are sustainably farmed and hand-harvested. The base wine is 2016 with reserve wines from 2014 and 2015. The wine is aged for 10 months in large oak casks. The wines do not go through malolactic fermentation. The dosage is 9 g/l.

👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of red apple, strawberry, red cherry, orange peel, rose, orange blossom, rhubarb, and slight bitter herbs.

👄 The wine is dry, high zippy acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), and medium+ body. Delicate bubbles and a fine texture on the palate. A medium+ length finish of red fruit, orange peel, and dried florals.

🔔 An impressive Rosé Champagne from Vilmart, it walks a unique path. One part is quite plush and voluminous due to the healthy dosage, but then that is quickly counterbalanced by the laser-like acidity and stunning texture. Overall, it is very distinctive as the wine dances across your tongue. Let's not deny that there is a pure yumminess factor to this wine that results in a quickly empty bottle. This is lovely work by Laurent Champs 👏.

2017 Domaine de Fontsainte - Gris de Gris Corbières (89 pts)

🥇Winner of the Rosé Blind Tasting Tournament. This wine is also the 2nd most affordable bottle in the tasting at $15 👊·

ℹ️ This wine is from Corbières which is an appellation in the Languedoc-Roussillon in Southern France. This wine is technically a rosé and is aptyly named a 'Gris de Gris' literally meaning a grey wine from grey grapes. This wine is 50% Grenache Gris (not actually grey, but pink grapes), 20% Grenache Noir, 20% Carignan, 5% Cinsault, and 5% Mourvèdre. Hand harvested, made using Saignée method, and blocked MLF·

👃Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of white flowers, peach, fresh strawberry, melon, meyer lemon, wet stone, and ocean air·

👄 The wine is dry, medium+ lively acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The palate has fruit flavors of peach, melon, strawberry, and sweet lemons. Then you are hit with floral notes and this chalky minerality on the subtle, but lingering medium+ length finish·

🔔 This wine is 1 word - Balanced! Interesting aromatics, great acidity, integrated alcohol, good weight, and this complex but restrained finish. I am very impressed by this wine in this line up and then dumbfounded when I looked up the price. 🙇‍♂️·

Made in the Methode Traditionelle using a blend of Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes which were aged for 2 years on bottle lees creates a sparkling that is value for money. A fresh start that flies you straight to Wimbledon watching the tennis and eating strawberries and cream.

Delicious. This is great. Not even in just rosé company, this is a great wine, full stop.

When it comes to rosé varieties, this is definitely on the drier side. If your not usually a fan of rosé (or find them too sweet), this is for you.

EB stands for experimental batch. Mac Forbes outline that EB wines are unique wines that have challenged them to push the boundaries in experience, comprehension of winemaking techniques and viticultural practices. Some trials never make it to bottle but those that do are deemed interesting and enjoyable enough to share.

This wine didn’t exist last year and really not even allowed. This is the first Prosecco Rosè available in Australia.

Mid last year the Italian government approved the production of a rosè Prosecco, permitting the addition of Pinot Noir to provide the rose colour.

BABO wines was started by Justin Bubb and after working for over 10 years in Italy, his vision was to produce contemporary, great value and premium Italian wines for the Australian palate and market.

Once the rules were changed BABO immediately created this Rosè Prosecco 2019 BOC.

This is completely different to most other Prosecco’s on the shelf or actually completely different to anything Prosecco I have ever tasted.

Not quite bone dry it does have that dry crisp ending similar to a ‘brut’. A little fruit, but I’m mainly feeling a freshness. It’s built for the beach and long summer days…simple…

Mouth sucking dryness to be exact. The flavour is different to most rosé wines and I experienced an orange taste. It is that acidity and just sucking the roof of your mouth dying for another sip. This was made for me.

Actually I’m changing the rating to A-, its great…simple…

One of the best wine related ideas I’ve seen in recent memory.

This idea has created so many opportunities for a wine lover. There are no geographical boundaries. Whether you live in Darwin or the Gold Coast you have the ability to taste a selection of wines from a winery and then buy the ones you like. Simple. These wineries have not only adapted and overcame initial problems, I think they have created an entirely new way of tasting and enjoying wine.

Recommendation: Buy a few for a day at the beach

I must admit I'm not really a Rosé drinker, I find most are too sweet and I'd always rather a white. So after I was given a bottle of Georgie Orbach 2018 Rosé, I have changed my opinion. This is a dry Rosé with only a tiny bit of sweetness. Refreshing, easy to drink. The end is all about summer melons with a honey after taste. I like this.

For 10 bucks its even better. This wine is just about a summers day with good friends. 🍷

This latest wine I received from Selina Estate Wine called You, Me and Pinot Grigio actually makes a beautiful cocktail.

2️⃣ 15ml Simple Syrup (just a sugar liquid that is added to a lot of cocktails)

1️⃣ Add You, Me and Pinot Gri-gio, simple syrup, gin, lemon juice and peach schnapps to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice, Side note; if you don’t have a cocktail shaker, you can use a protein shaker.

2️⃣ Shake then strain into a chilled martini glass.

(Don’t forget to use the peaches for dessert. Just add cream)
