2017 Almaviva - Puente Alto (95 points) @almavivawinery ℹ️
9/10/2021, 9:31:30 AM 2017 Almaviva - Puente Alto (95 points) @almavivawinery ℹ️ This wine is from Puente Alto, in Chile's Upper Maipo Valley. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Carmenère, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Merlot. Viña Almaviva is a joint venture between Viña Concha y Toro and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The 2017 vintage was warm and dry. All of the rainfall happened in the early part of the growing season. Followed by warmer than average temperatures, the harvest occurred several weeks earlier than usual. The drought conditions and high temperatures resulted in low yields with very concentrated berries. The wine was aged for 19 months in French oak barrels, with 77% being new oak. 👁 Deep ruby color with some purple hue. 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe blackberry, boysenberry, black currant, sweet tobacco, dried chili, herbal, rosemary, tomato leaf, oak, clove, vanilla, and rose stems. 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, high bold drying tannins, high alcohol (14.5%), and full body. Velvety and mouthcoating on the palate. A long length finish of ripe black fruit, tobacco, dried herbs, and oak spice. 🔔 The 2017 vintage in Chile has created some fabulous wines, and the Almaviva is one of my favorites. Honestly, this is the best Almaviva that I have tried, and the quality just keeps getting better each year. It is rare to have a young wine with so much aromatic diversity in the nose. On the palate’s shows layers of black fruit concentration and dried herbs that are contained by excellent acidity and bold tannins. The 2017 Almaviva is stunning and built to age. I wouldn't revisit it until at least 5-7 years. This will get better, be patient. 👏👏👏 💰 ~$140 #vin #lovewine #🍷 #wineterroir #wine #vinotinto #almaviva #puentealto #chileanwine #winesofchile #chilewine #maipovalley
