2015 Maison Roy & Fils - Incline Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (89 pts) @domaineroy · 🙋‍♂️ What is the ideal alcohol of Pinot Noir❓Does it matter❓· ℹ️ Let's start off with the name. The previous post's wine and this wine are made by the exact same Producer. They use the Burgundian Classification of Domaine to dilineate Estate fruit, while they use Maison for sourced or partially sourced fruit. This wine is 💯 Pinot Noir partially from their estate Iron Filbert Vineyard and the rest from La Colina Vineyard. Both vineyards are in the Dundee Hills AVA, Oregon. Domaine Roy is known for low intervention Winemaking. Native yeast fermentations. 8% whole cluster. 21 days of skin maceration. Aged for 11 months in 15% new French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Only 800 cases produced· 👁 Medium ruby color, slightly cloudy· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe black cherry, ripe strawberry, pommegrante, rose, gravel, subtle oak, cardamom, and sanguine· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium ripe tannins, medium+ alcohol, and full body. A medium+ length finish of dark cherry, pommegrante juice, and cardamom· 🔔 While I preferred the Chardonnay to this wine, this is on the opposite end of the flavor spectrum. The Chardonnay was subtle and refined. This is a pretty bold Pinot Noir. The fruit skirts the line of overripe without going over, but this is possibly a reflection of the vintage. The oak is deftly integrated with some smart cooperage choices. The floral 🌹 and spice Aromatics make this wine. I will note that is one of the higher octane Pinots tasted in this series at 14.5% ABV. It holds it well, with it's broader weight on the palate. Overall an excellent wine and excited to see Domaine Roy's full line up. 🍷
