2009 Louis Roederer - Philippe Starck Brut Nature Champagne (88 pts) @louisroederer @starck @mmd _uk · 🙋‍♂️ Thoughts on a collaboration between a Champagne House and a Designer❓· ℹ️ This Champagne's blend of 2/3 Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with the remaining 1/3 being Chardonnay. All grapes are from the village of Cumières in the Marne. About 25% of this Champagne is fermented in oak and there no Malolactic fermentation on this wine. Disgorged in May 2016 and zero dosage· 👁 Medium lemon color· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of Flint, smoke, toast, almonds, gunsmoke, yeast, and Meyer lemon· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. Creamy texture. On the palate citrus, smokey, and mineral. A medium length finish· 🔔 Overall, this is a good Champagne. I personally don't love zero dosage as a style. Tasted this amongst 5 other zero dosage Champagnes and while this was the best of the lot, it didn't hold a candle to many of the dozen Extra Bruts that I tasted right after this wine. Love the label, but I think this a bit overhyped. I did rate the 2006 a few points higher earlier this year. Tasted again tonight and stand by my rating.
