2013 Rhys Vineyards - Skyline Vineyard Pinot Noir (94 pts) @rhys _vineyards · 🙋🏼‍♂️ Who makes your favorite New World Pinot Noir❓· ℹ️ Skyline Vineyard is one of the highest altitude Pinot Noir vineyards in California at 2270' to 2360'. The site barely has topsoil and is extremely rocky. The vines have one of the highest density plantings in California at 17,000 vines per hectare. Farming philosophy is based on organic and Biodynamic principles. Hand-harvested, native yeast fermentation, and 💯 whole cluster· 👁 Medium ruby color with a pale rim· 👃 Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe raspberry, pomegranate, red plum, dried rose, Earl Grey tea, stemmy, marjoram, oak, smoke, and star anise· 👄The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium- chalky tannins, medium alcohol (12.6%), and medium+ body. Layers fruit and florals with a lot of dry extract. A long finish of rosewater, red plum, and star anise· 🔔 This wine is still delightful and starting to open up. This is my third time tasting this vintage of the Skyline Vineyard, and it is coming together into a brilliant total package. The concentration of fruit is remarkable. The wine does a great job of pronounced yet ethereal on the nose, but weighty and layered on the palate. The oak is nicely in the background adding smoke and spice. The finish lingers on for quite some time.
