Macedon Ranges Gamay from Lyons Will, one of my favourite producers in the region. Interesting wine, tasted blind, wouldn’t pick it for Gamay. That being said, the vines are babies. Sour cherry, crisp red berries and stems on the nose. On the palate there’s a touch of sweet berries to off-set the sour cherry chewy goodness, and the whole bunch (40%) adds a real savoury, herbal edge, to the wine. Loved the tannins, fine and gripping, combined nicely with fresh cleansing acidy. Definitely one to watch for the future!
