2018 Errázuriz - MAX Reserva Pinot Noir

ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Pinot Noir from estate vineyards in the Aconcagua Costa appellation of Chile. Aconcagua Costa is the coastal part of the larger Aconcagua Valley. The vineyards are 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean, which has a cooling effect on the appellation. Vine is 15 years old. The soils are a layer of loam over a combination of clay and schist. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, with 15% being new oak.

👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of baked strawberry, red cherry, red plum, oak, toast, and earthy.

👄 The wine is dry, medium+ sharp acidity, medium- ripe tannins, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), and medium body. A medium- length finish of ripe red fruit and earthy.

🔔 Sub-$20 Pinot Noir is tough to pull off, and often it doesn't taste like the grape variety. MAX Reserva Pinot Noir does a respectable job of being true to the grape's varietal character. However, the acidity is overtly sharp on the initial attack, and the oak is not very integrated on the palate. Overall, I would rather people drink this over many other Pinot Noir wines at this price point. However, I still think the MAX Reserva Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon offer significantly more enjoyment.

I love the wines that William Downie makes and if there is one winery I am bias about it is his range of wines. Not only do I adore his labels which feature iconic Australian landscapes from

 his ability to craft pinots makes them at the forefront of my shopping list.

This is my first taste of his Cathedral Pinot. I would say this is his entry pinot as most other ones are above $50.

But this is no where near an entry level wine. Most winemakers would be ecstatic to have such a wine, especially if it was the ‘cheaper one’.

It is a lot lighter than his other Pinots, but makes a beautiful impression especially if it is a night filled with more wine.

Rasberry nose and hint of five spice towards the end…simple…

So I’m having wine from a can 🤔 First for me but I’m trying Elephant 🐘 in the Room Pinot Noir. I tried this a few months ago (in the bottle) and loved it. So I’m doing a side by side tasting 🍷 250ml can (2.7 standard drinks) verses a half bottle. Same vintage just glass v aluminium. 🍷

Is of weird having wine from a can? Hell Yes

Would I buy wine in a can again? No, not red* but I did see there are a few wineries doing white wine in a can. Now that I would buy, especially for the esky. Brilliant idea for a picnic 🧺 or a sneaky drink the beach 🏝 *These days there are half bottles which I’d rather buy but it is a good idea if you just want one glass of wine...simple...

Solid B with this wine. Just a very good Pinot. Especially for the price.

I love Pinots, but recently I feel there is so much difference between a good Pinot and a bad one. I have had some average ones recently and price is not an indication.

So for $26, this is a classic Yarra Valley Pinot and sometimes I just want a classic Pinot that I can depend on...simple...

Beautiful label, beautiful wine. A great Pinot that has a lot of cherry 🍒 and spice especially at the end. Starts off light but then the cherry comes to the front, you think it is over, then bang, a little kick 🦵 of spice hits the back of your throat.  I was not expecting that. Not a classic Pinot from the Mornington Peninsula but I don’t think this is meant to be. This is a great wine to be enjoyed with friends.  Light and fun with a great ending...simple...

Mid last year the Italian government approved the production of a rosè Prosecco, permitting the addition of Pinot Noir to provide the rose colour.

Once the rules were changed BABO immediately created this Rosè Prosecco 2019 BOC.

This is completely different to most other Prosecco’s on the shelf or actually completely different to anything Prosecco I have ever tasted.

Not quite bone dry it does have that dry crisp ending similar to a ‘brut’. A little fruit, but I’m mainly feeling a freshness. It’s built for the beach and long summer days…simple…

The Bio Project represents Shingleback’s ongoing commitment to undertaking native revegetation within their Davey Estate Vineyards.

From this they have produced three Bio Project Wines and one is a Dry Rosé.

Mouth sucking dryness to be exact. The flavour is different to most rosé wines and I experienced an orange taste. It is that acidity and just sucking the roof of your mouth dying for another sip. This was made for me.

Actually I’m changing the rating to A-, its great…simple…

The best Pinot I have ever had under $20...yes I'm calling it.

Normally I only seem to like expensive Pinots and I usually feel a lot of them are overpriced for what they deliver. But this is $14, YES FOURTEEN DOLLARS.

So before I go on,  lets go back to the taste and forgetting the price for a moment.

Its dark, nice on the nose and has an expressive taste (but what does expressive mean? I don't know, but it was the best word I could think of. I want to say interesting but it a good way) Either way it is very easy to drink. Its very good start to a long night of tasting. Now if you asked me the price & what it was worth I would say $25.

So when I heard it was $14, I was shocked. I had to have another sip and another sip and keep on thinking s@

 I wasted a lot of money on average pinot's. Wow, $14. .

Is it the best Pinot your going to have? No, but its not trying to be and that is what I like about. This is a great midweek wine or a wine you take to the beach or a park, where your happy to be with friends. It's a wine you don't have to worry about. This is a very good, easy drinking pinot that's not ripping you off. Actually they could sell it for $20 and I'd still be happy. .

I recently grabbed two of these Deviation Road bottles and it wasn't until I got home I realised they were different vintages, so I ended up buying the 2016 & the 2017. Perfect time for a little comparison. Instead of side by side, I did night by night.

Now before I go any further there is nothing wrong with the 2016, but the 2017 is so much better.

Deviation Road have captured everything great about Adelaide Hills pinot and bottled it.

I will be helping by buying as much Adelaide Hills wine as possible.

I would love to hear your comments and thoughts on any Adelaide Hills wine you recommend?

Would have to be one of the simplest labels I’ve ever seen, but this wine is anything but simple. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to drink fresh snowy mountain water, the type that trickles down a creek and just minutes ago it was snow. It’s cold but so clean. You use your hands as a cup and the taste is just perfect. Thirst quenching. So clean it’s pure.

Well this is the wine version. Beautiful smell that starts with such a clean taste and a length that truely lasts longer than wines double its price. I never described a wine as clean but this is. Well done...simple... 🍷

I’ve seen this at most bottle shops and for $15, I thought I’ll give it a crack.

Its soft, a little fruit that gives a light taste. Actually it’s not bad especially for the price.

Now I love Oatley wines, especially the signature series. Now I got that out of the way, I found this Pinot strong and not what I normally want from a Yarra Valley Pinot. It’s big and bold with a lot of texture. It’s not bad, it’s actually a good wine but it just isn’t what I want when I choose or buy a Pinot. Does that make sense?

My recommendation is buy the Robert Oatley Signature Cab Sav or Shiraz which are both fantastic wines for the price...simple...

A Pinot Noir is the latest release from Georgie Orbach wines. It may seem like I’m in love with this winery and that’s because I am. For $15, it is so good. A lot of people try to make a cheap Pinot and a lot just don’t deliver. This one does. So much in fact I’ve bought more. I also added some of the Cabernet Sauvignon that I reviewed last year. I think I’ve drunk more of Georgie’s wine than any other in the last 6 months. That should be recommendation enough...simple...
