Parker Coonawarra Block 95 2016, a single block release of the classic Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Petit Verdot (25%). Not a wine you need to rush to open, this’ll chill for decades before you’ve missed the window! But, sometimes curiosity gets the better of me and I can’t help myself...

In a nutshell it’s elegant and super classy. Stunning dark fruit depth, black currants and cassis for days with spices, coffee grinds, and gum leaf all converging supremely. If you can resist, do so. The future is very bright for this wine!

So this is a 3 way (get out of the gutter) taste of some of the current Taylors Shiraz that you can currently buy. I bought all three and did a side by side taste.

Looking at the labels, they have more gold medals than Ian Thorpe, so which one this the best to buy?

 at the moment. At $22, it already has 5 years under its belt, great wine to drink this weekend. Has aged characteristics which brings out some extra quality compared to the other two. Its a very good drink, but clearly shows how a wine can improve and develop over time.

Then I compare the Estate and the Reserve. Both from the 2017 vintage, the Reserve is represents the "finest aspects" of each vintage. The Estate is the entry level Shiraz from Taylors.

They are both great for separate reasons and I can't split the two. I like them both. The Estate is very easy to drink but still delivers length and taste, while the Reserve has a more rich intense profile. Both quality wines. Both will age beautifully.

But as a consumer and who actually buys wine, I just can't get past the $10 difference. The Reserve is definitely worth $22 on its own, but I'd rather buy two of the Estate. No actually buy 6, then in a few years time, it will be better than the above mentioned 2014.

This buying wine caper can be harder than it looks sometimes.

Recommendation: Buy 5 of the 2017 Estate and 1 of the 2014...simple...

Delicious. This is great. Not even in just rosé company, this is a great wine, full stop.

When it comes to rosé varieties, this is definitely on the drier side. If your not usually a fan of rosé (or find them too sweet), this is for you.

EB stands for experimental batch. Mac Forbes outline that EB wines are unique wines that have challenged them to push the boundaries in experience, comprehension of winemaking techniques and viticultural practices. Some trials never make it to bottle but those that do are deemed interesting and enjoyable enough to share.

Cork seal with a beautiful wax dipped covering. Love this. Dark in colour almost black. Smooth start, real smooth, then without notice the wine builds and before I realised it, I was in love. Delicious wine. It will develop and cellar beautifully.

Hand made approach, where I’m sure every grape is treated with absolute respect and care. Basket pressed and then placed in old French oak, which I think this was the perfect choice. You really notice all those little things in the taste and quality of this wine. I really  appreciate the love that was put into this bottle and I love drinking wines like this.

My discovery of the year is Sholto Wines from Canberra. Jacob Carter is the founder and wine maker of

 which he started in 2015. I was lucky enough to review and enjoy four of his wines this year and was truely impressed.

I originally said “So if I could invest in a winery, this is it...simple....Thats the best compliment I can give. I just don’t want 6, I want the entire winery.” I still stand by that comment. The standout was his latest 2018 Syrah, which was absolutely beautiful and a wine I would buy and drink time after time.

In addition the 2018 Syrah was named the champion wine at the Canberra and Region Wine Show. 🍷

Look, I’m not going to say it’s not, it’s beautiful, delicious and has that character that only great wines have. I normally don’t rate wine that are sold out, unavailable or from my cellar. But this is a great wine.

To be honest I did I open it too early and it did deserve more time in the cellar, but after my car breaking down, I deserve this.
