12/8/2021, 9:40:06 AM 2005 Château Cos d'Estournel - Saint-Estèphe (96 pts) @cosdestournel ℹ️ Château Cos d'Estournel is in the Saint-Estèphe, one of the six communal appellations of the Médoc. Saint-Estèphe is just north of Pauillac and only separated by a stream. Cos d'Estournel is 1 of 15 Second Growths of the 1855 classification. After Michel Reybier took ownership in 2000, there was a study of the soils of the estate. The result was a decision to equip the winery to be able to vinify individual plots separately. This wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. 👁 Deep ruby color with a pale rim 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe black currant, black cherry, blackberry, oak, cedar, extinguished campfire, clove, bitter chocolate powder, gravel, lead pencil, violets, sage, and leather. 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, high chewy, chalky tannins, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), and medium+ body. The palate shows pristine ripe black fruit, followed by bitter chocolate, espresso, and oak spices. A long length finish of black fruit, gravel, lead pencil, and leather. 🔔 2005 Cos d'Estournel has still not unwound to show it's true potential yet. The nose shows everything coming together nicely with a seamless mixture of primary fruit merged with oak and just starting to develop some tertiary aromas. The palate has all of the components, but the structure of the wine delineates them. The wonderful acidity carries the ripe fruit through the palate. The mid-palate hits you with a wall of chewy tannins that still need time to melt away. The finish is exceptionally long and shows all of the finer points of where this wine is headed. Overall, give this a few more years, and it should get to the next level and be spectacular. #vin #lovewine #🍷 #wineterroir #wine #saintestephe #bordeaux #medoc #bordeauxwine #cosdestournel
