Baga has small berries with thick skins, which results in tannic wines. Other grapes are often blended in to soften the wines. Cave do Solar das Francesas, a renowned producer from Anadia founded in 1905. This wine was purchased while on a trip to Portugal a few years ago. 👁 Medium garnet color with a pale tawny rim. 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried red fruit, stewed cherries, dried leaves, tobacco, cedar, and a touch of balsamic vinegar. 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium- resolved tannins, medium alcohol (12%), and medium body. The palate shows a touch more fruit than on the nose. A medium- length finish of dried red fruit and dried leaves. 🔔 This wine is clearly past it's prime on has more than one foot in the grave. It is always great fun to taste these old wines. Sometimes you get something exceptional, but this wasn’t one of those times. Baga reminds me of Portugal's version of Nebbiolo, just with more color. That acidity was still shining through, and the tannins were still there but mostly mellowed. #vin #lovewine #🍷 #wineterroir #wine #portuguesewine #bairrada #baga #winesofportugal #portuguesewines
