Dedicated to minimalist, organic viticulture and winemaking, Hank Beckmeyer adheres to the principals of Japanese natural farmer and philosopher Masanobu Fukuoka, along with Rudolph Steiner, Austrian founder of biodynamic farming. The 10 hectares of La Clarine Farm are a cohesive ecosystem of vines, trees, indigenous herbs and flowers, goats, chickens, dogs and cats. Grapes are from the organic Sumu Kaw vineyard with volcanic soil, at 2900 feet in elevation, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, barrel-fermented, unfined, unfiltered. Coral ruby in colour, with delicate aromas of wild strawberry, watermelon, herbs and smoky earth. Cranberry, wild berries, herbs and earthy minerality are accented by bright acidity. Red berries and a trace of spice linger on the crisp finish.
