⭐️85/100⭐️ Brendan Tracey Rue de la Soif Blanc, 2019 📍Loir-et-Cher, Loire, France🇫🇷 🍇 100% Sauvignon Blanc ⚡️13% Tasted: July 2020 ——————
Brendan Tracey grew up in New Jersey and spent most of his youth in San Francisco, where his parents were enjoying the 1960’s hippie dreams. While there, Brendan lived through the cultural revolution and soon developed a passion for music, following psychedelic bands and punk musicians.
Brendan’s mother was originally from France, where he went to highschool and finished in 1974. He fell in love with his mother’s native country (and in a friend from there), so after a few years back in California joining bands in the hard-core punk movement, he decided to move back to France in 1980, getting married and staying for good - many years later for the benefit of the wine industry.
After spending years with the natural wine pioneer Thierry Puzalet from Loire, he decided to start his own business.
Tracey’s first vintage, 2010, was from bought grapes, but today, he’s ruling over 5 hectares of vineyards. All organically certified, but he’s working hands-off/natural in the cellar. “Rue de la Soif” is based on 40-60 years-old vines planted on clay and limestone soils with surface silex. All grapes are hand harvested and naturally vinified via spontaneous fermentation in vats. Aged one year on its lees, one half in old barrels and the other half in vats. No fining or filtration, and no additions at all. - 5,000 bottles. The wine looks beautiful with a cloudy look - almost white like you can see the lees. It’s got a super pale orange touch too.
The aromas are almost hidden behind a strong scent of yeast from the surlie - just some green apple and lemon break through. If you like me enjoy a wine with a backbone of heavy yeast, this will for sure be the thing.
The palate is light offering green apple, grape fruit, sour pineapple and fresh grass. It’s super acidic - the perfect summer juice, and not your typical Sauvignon Blanc..
