2017 DuMOL - Jentoft Vineyard Ryan Pinot Noir (94 pts) @dumolwinery · ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Pinot Noir from the Dutton Ranch Jentoft Vineyard in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, California. The vineyard was planted with Calera and Swan clones in 2007. The vineyard is on a steep hillside with a very shallow marine topsoil on sandstone bedrock. The wine is hand-harvested, destemmed, and goes through an indigenous yeast fermentation. The wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels with 45% new oak· 👁 Medium+ ruby color with a pale rim· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe lingonberry, mulberry, dark cherry, lavender, cherry blossom, rosemary, oak, smoke, and star anise· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium-sized ripe tannins, medium+ alcohol (14.1%), and medium+ body. A silky texture on the palate. A long length finish of dark berries, lavender, and star anise· 🔔 The nose of the wine is lovely, but the palate takes it up a few notches as it unfurls a bevy of flavors. The acidity cuts through the nearly full-body palate like a razor blade through layers of silk. The oak is surprisingly deft at 45% new but adds some spicy nuance that lingers on the finish.
