2009 Domaine Ponsot - Corton Grand Cru Cuvée de Bourdon (93 pts) @vineyardbrands · 🙋‍♂️ Have you had the wines of Domaine Ponsot❓· ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Pinot Noir from the Corton Grand Cru appellation. The wine is a blend of 4 different sites on the hill of Corton. Domaine Ponsot is known for picking late. Known for incorporating stems, but to stem or not destem is truly a vintage specific question to answered post harvest. Wines are aged in barrel for 2 years, but never with new oak. Known for fairly reductive winemaking due to not using SO2, so the wine is only racked once post fermentation and never interacts with oxygen until the customer opens the bottle. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and no SO2· 👁 Medium ruby color with a watery rim and unfiltered· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried strawberry, red currant, licorice, twizzler candy, floral, rose, stemmy, oak, smoke, and earthy· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium spicy tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. A very gritty texture to the wine. A long length finish of dried and ripe red fruits followed by earth and spice· 🔔 This wine went head to head with the 2012. 2009 is a ripe and almost hedonistic vintage for red Burgundy. This is tipping the scales at 14.5% ABV, which is a tad higher than I usually like my Pinots. Where it is successful is the layers of flavor running the gamut from dried red fruit to ripe red fruit to candied red fruit. Some florals, earth, and spice getting married together in a long lengthy finish. Although this wine has broad shoulders it is still in balance. The solid acid backbone and gritty texture keep it in check. Clearly time has helped soften this wine. It feels like it is just entering the optimal window and should stay there for many years to come. Simply yummy!
