The theme was 2016 Côte-Rôtie. This is 💯 Syrah farmed Biodynamically on a 1.5 ha site in Côte Blonde. The soil is comprised of decomposed mica-schist and decomposed iron oxide. 40+ year old vines with very low yields. Aged exclusively in Demi-muids (500 l barrels) with about 20% new· 👁 Medium ruby color, pale rim· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of raspberry, black cherry, red plum, wet rock, licorice, smoke, and oak spice· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, medium fine-grained tannins, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. A long finish of ripe raspberry, licorice, and smoke· 🔔 This wine was 2 of 8 for me and the group rank of the tasters in this blind flight. The best acid backbone in the entire flight. This tannins give the wine a lot of texture without being overly astringent. Definitely the longest finish of the flight. This will develop even more complexity with age and is built to last. At $80 this delivers a lot of quality, but it will really reward those who can wait 5-7 years· 😎 In Blind, We Trust
