Luigi Scavino’s wines are renowned for their classical character and superb quality. Grapes are sourced from Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d’Alba vineyards [for the 2005 vintage, the majority of grapes came from Serralunga]. The soils are white calcareous and a clay mix. Aged for 2 years in large casks. This is the estate’s entry, or “base” Barolo; it is only made in the years that the Barolo Riserva Bricco Voghera is not produced. Organic and sustainable farming is practiced; absolutely no chemicals are added to the soil. Natural manure is added only to the poorest soils every 3-4 years; native grasses are left to flourish between the rows. Only wild fermentation is used, the wine is not filtered or clarified, enzymes are not added. Very aromatic, with cherry, black cherry, plum, rose petal, tarry earth, cedar, cinnamon, peppery spice and eucalyptus. Black cherry, blackberry, fig, leather, fennel, clove, crushed black peppercorn, eucalyptus, and tarry earth are accented by fresh acidity and grippy tannins. Orange zest, clove, cherry and cedar linger on the velvety finish. Complex, well structured, pure with a rustic slant, just lovely. 100% Nebbiolo 14.5% Alcohol Azelia Barolo DOCG 2005 #nebbiolo #serralungadalba #castiglionefalletto #piemonte #vinnaturel #vinonaturale #vinvivant #vinnature #organicwine #lowintervention #drinkbetter #drinkitalian #naturalwine #winegeek #barolo #nattywine #vinorosso #vinoitaliano #winelover #redwine #italianwine #instavino #winestagram #instawine #luigiscavino #caravino
