This actually a single vineyard, planted in 1950 on clay and limestone soils at 50-100m. Made using open top fermenters with extended skin maceration. Aged for 24 months in concrete before being filtered and bottled· 👁 Deep gold color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of bruised apple, oxidation, peach skin, dried apricot, dried nectarine, lemon peel, salted almond, and dried leaves· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, and medium+ body. A medium length finish of lemon peel, dried leaves, and bitter almond· 🔔 Tasting this side by side with 1991 was interesting. The 91 had a more expressive nose. This wine took a long time to come out it's shell. Basically at the very end of the tasting. The body of this wine was more balanced. There was more fruit concentration that stood up to the acidity. It was a bit weightier in body too. In hind sight a quick decant would have woken this wine up after it's long slumber in the bottle. I have had this wine double blind 3 times in the last few years. Twice I called it as Lopez de Heredia and once as Château Musar Blanc. Those are 2 wines that I like a lot. If you like Musar or Lopez de Heredia then I would check this wine out.
