12/27/2021, 5:59:51 AM 2002 Dönnhoff - Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Spätlese Nahe (94 pts) @corneliusdonnhoff @terrytheise @skurnikwines · 🙋♂️ How sweet do you like your Riesling ❓· ℹ️ This wine is 💯 Riesling from Nahe, Germany. This is a single vineyard, Hermannshöhle, that is one of the best sites in all of Nahe. This site faces due south and lies 130 –175 m above sea level. Its soils are primarily blackish gray slate mixed with extrusive igneous rock, porphyry and limestone· 👁 Medium gold color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of ripe peach, dried apricot, , applesauce, cinnamon, smoke, canned nectarine, ripe persimmon, ginger, mango sorbet, and a hint of petrol· 👄 The wine is medium-dry, high deceptive acidity, low alcohol, and medium body. This wine dances on the palate. A long length finish of peach, nectarine, and some earthy spices· 🔔 Sometimes you get a bottle of aged Riesling at the perfect window and this is one of those times. This has a fair amount of Residual Sugar on it, but it's really balanced by the acidity that cuts through on the palate and makes the wine more ethereal. The fruit hasn't morphed into all dried fruit and spice yet, but showing signs. This has plenty of life yet, but it is drinking extremely well right now.
