2008 Produttori del Barbaresco - Asili Barbaresco Riserva (93 pts) @produttoridelbarbaresco @viaswine @rarewineco · 🙋‍♂️ Have you tried the wines from Produttori del Barbaresco before❓· ℹ️ The Asili vineyard has 2 distinct sections: the upper part informally called Bricco Asili and the lower part which is a bowl. The upper part shares a lot in common with Rabajà. Limestone soils with a high concentration of calcium and a southwest exposure. The lower part has a southwest exposure and has a warmer microclimate with less influence from the Tanaro River. The combination of these 2 parts of the vineyard give the wine complexity. The vineyard elevation is 230-290 m. A lot of people see this as the top Cru of Barbaresco and often draw comparisons with Musigny of Burgundy. First produced as a single vineyard in 1967· 👁 Medium ruby color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of bing cherry, raspberry, floral, dried flowers, rose, orange peel, and a touch of VA· 👄 The wine is dry, high acidity, high grippy tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium body. Lively acidity and finely textured. Medium+ length finish of rose petals· 🔔 Honestly, I struggled with the pecking order for the last 3 wines. They were all complex, but really showed something unique in them that the other 6 didn't quite display. This wine had a vibrancy that is not easily replicated, extremely high tannins and acidity, but only medium body. The aromatics were lifted (VA lending it's helping hand) and showing a dried floral character that is quite unique, but still keeping primary ripe red fruit. This was 2 of 9 for me, but 6 of 9 for the group. This is one of the Riservas that I collect as well. In Blind, We Trust 😎
