1983 Domaine Marius Delarche - Corton-Renardes Grand Cru (88 pts) @northberkeleyimports · 🙋♂️ How old do you like your Pinot Noir❓· ℹ️ 1983 vintage in Burgundy was a mixed bag. Heavy rains in the spring, a hot dry summer, and heavy rainfall in September. This caused uneven ripening and rot. The sun did emerge right before harvest. Depending on when you harvested you may have gotten pretty good quality fruit. Côte de Beaune was more consistent, but the wines of the vintage were in Côte de Nuits. Highly controversial vintage, that was written off by many· 👁 Medium garnet with a pale tawny rim· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried cherry, dried cranberry, stewed strawberry, licorice, old tea leaves, earthy, and sanguine· 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium- dusty tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium- body. You can feel an almost powdery texture to the wine. Dried red fruits, cedar, tea leaves, and earthy. The finish is medium length and has a licorice and sour cherry note· 🔔 First whiff scared me a bit, this just needed some air. Always reluctant to decant anything this old without major sediment. Opened in the glass over an hour. This is past it's prime, but not dead by any means. It was enjoyable and even more educational as it's a vintage that I am not well versed in.
