2015 Antoine Sanzay - Saumur-Champigny La Haye Dampierre
8/6/2021, 9:15:50 AM 2015 Antoine Sanzay - Saumur-Champigny La Haye Dampierre (93 pts) #winereview @antoine .sanzay @vinergie _us · 🙋♂️Do you ❤️ or 💔 Cabernet Franc❓· ℹ️ This is 💯 Cabernet Franc. Saumur-Champigny is a red wine appellation in the center of the Loire Valley. The climate is a mild maritime climate. Soils are chalky limestone and clay marl on top of a tuffeau plateau. La Haye Dampierre is a specific lieu-dit that is Northwest facing and therefore late-ripening. Vinification takes place in cement and is then aged in neutral oak barrels· 👁 Deep ruby with some purple hue· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of dust, earth, blackberry, blackcurrant, menthol, tobacco, dried ancho chiles, and violets· 👄 The wine is dry, high zippy acidity, medium+ chalky tannins, medium alcohol, and medium body. More intensity on the palate. Ripe blackberry, blackcurrant, and pomegranate. Mid palate is earthy, tobacco, dried chiles, and chalk. The finish is medium+ length almost long, with flavors of ink and violets· 🔔 This was fabulous. My first time having this cuvée. Purchased @flatironwinessf and this will change your expectations of Cabernet Franc and not require you to sell a kidney to buy Clos Rougeard (in all fairness you have 2 for a reason) if you can find it. Decanting in the vSpin🌪 totally helped tone down the tannins and bring out the flavors in the wine. In all honesty, this wine needs air or cellar time. Reputation and hype are both well deserved 🙇♂️· #frenchwine #redwine #cabernetfranc #saumurchampigny #loire #loirevalley #loirevalleywines #closrougeard
