2014 Luís Seabra Vinhos - Indie Xisto (92 pts) #winereview @lseabrawine · ❓What is your favorite Portuguese wine❓· ℹ️ Luís Seabra was the winemaker at Niepoort for 10 years. He started his winery to showcase the Terroir of the Douro. He works with indigenous yeasts, spontaneous fermentation, and large format oak. Vines were planted in 1950 on Schist soil at 510 m elevation. 30% Tinta Roriz(aka Tempranillo), 30% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Amarela, and 5% each of other indigenous grapes. Aged 22 months in French Oak (assuming used)· 👁 Deep ruby color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, pomegranate, leather, black pepper, wet rock, and men's cologne (less floral more musty)· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium ripe chalky tannins, medium alcohol, and medium body. This wine has a fabulous mid palate and a great texture throughout. Ripe black fruits, then leather and a little bit of black pepper spice. Followed by lots of chalkiness and wet rock. Very mineral medium+ length finish· 🔔 This is complex and elegant. The aromas on the nose are a prelude to the palate, but the palate shows you a bit of everything. Ripe flavors, good acidity, perfect alcohol level, and layers of flavor on the palate. This should improve with age. This reminds me of a cross between a Volnay and a Ribeira Sacra wine. Probably one of the most elegant Portuguese wines I have tasted. 👏👏👏· ⚠️ This wine was generously provided by @obrigadovinhos for review with no strings attached 🙏· #portuguesewine #douro #dourovalley #dourowine #indie #redwine #tempranillo #tintaroriz
