2011 Ferragu - Valpolicella Superiore (92 pts) #winereview - Deep ruby color. Pronounced intensity on the nose. Aromas of raisins, prunes, dark cherries, and figs dominate the nose. Followed by aromas of cloves, anise, soy sauce, and mushrooms. The wine is dry, but there is some residual sugar. Medium+ acidity that takes a moment to shine. High alcohol, but the wine carries it well. Medium+ dusty and grippy tannins. Medium+ body. This wine has great texture. Blind I would be thinking this was an Amarone. The umami flavors of soy and Worcestershire sauce shine on the palate. The cooked and dried black fruits are in full force as well. Medium+ length finish. This is a bold wine. Like a very fine balsamic vinegar.
