1983 López de Heredia - Viña Tondonia Crianza @lopezdeherediaoficial · ℹ️ This wine is largely based on Tempranillo with Garnacha (aka Grenache Noir), Graciano, and Mazuelo (aka Carignan) making up the minority. The grapes come from the Viña Tondonia estate vineyard in Rioja, Spain. This wine is a Crianza level wine that requires a minimum of 3 years of aging and at least one of the years in an oak barrel. López de Heredia is known for aging way beyond the minimum guidelines at all levels. Their red seal over the wine capsule can identify Crianza level wines· 👁 Medium- garnet with a pale tawny rim· 👃 Medium intensity on the nose. Aromas of dried leaves, earthy, dried cherry, dried strawberry, fruit leather, wilted flowers, and tobacco· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, low resolved tannins, medium alcohol (~12.5%), and light body. A lot of texture to this wine. A short length finish of fruit leather and dried leaves· 🔔 If you like old wine, then you would find this wine interesting. I can’t remember ever tasting a Rioja wine of this age that was a Crianza. Surprised, it was still drinkable, and that just speaks to the pedigree of the producer. This wine was probably 15 years past it’s prime and on the slow decline. This bottle was acquired from an auction mixed lot with Gran Reserva wines in the lot, so kind of a kicker wine· #vin #lovewine #🍷 #wineterroir #wine #rioja #riojawine #tempranillo #spanishwine #crianza
