Winemaker Bibi Graetz is always at the forefront of exploring what Tuscan wines can be. @bibigraetz 路 馃柤 If wine is like art, then beauty is discerned by the palate of the drinker. I have had a love-hate relationship with these wines over the years, but the 2016s are wonderful路 馃嵎 2016 Bibi Graetz - Testamatta Rosso. 馃挴 Sangiovese from 35-50-year-old vines. Native yeast fermentation in open-top barrique barrels. Aged in old oak barrels for two years路 馃挵~$90路 馃嵎 2016 Bibi Graetz - Colore Rosso. 80% Sangiovese, 10% Colorino, and 10% Canaiolo from vines over 70 years old. Native yeast fermentation in open-top barrique barrels. Every parcel is aged separately for almost three years before making the final blend路 馃挵~$360 馃敂 Testamatta is a unique expression of Sangiovese in Tuscany. It is not constrained by any of the regulations of Chiantis or Brunellos by being a Toscana IGT. The Colore follows a lot of the same principals but blends in other indigenous grape varieties. Colore was tight and not as expressive on the nose nor as giving on the palate as the Testamatta. Assuming the wine just needs time, but it is 4x the price, and at that price point, there are many wines that I would likely gravitate to instead.
