2007 Guigal - Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc (94 pts) @domaineguigal · ℹ️ This wine is from the Hermitage appellation in the Northern Rhone Valley of France. This wine is a blend of 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne. The average age of the vines is 40-90 years old. The wine ultimately undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged in 💯 new French oak barrels for 30 months· 👁 Deep gold color· 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of baked apple, grilled peach, persimmon, dandelion, honeysuckle, beeswax, oak, hazelnut, brown butter, honey, smoke, cardamom, and flint· 👄 The wine is dry, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol (13%), and full body. A stunning texture to the wine. A long length finish of grilled stone fruit, hazelnut, and beeswax· 🔔 This wine possesses so much power and depth that it commands your attention. This wine does a marvelous job being full bodied without being high alcohol. The weight is balanced against the moderate acidity and texture (glycerin) of the wine instead of tannins. Yes, it is well oaked, but there is so much more demonstrated by the happy marriage of fruit aromas and oak integration. Hermitage Blanc, as a category of wine, always benefits from 5-10 years of cellaring. This wine is to just entering it's drinking window now and still has room to improve, not yet at peak.
